River Road Farm
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated Cattle Farm Manager (ideally a working couple) to oversee the daily operations of our grassfed/grass-finished Devon/Angus beef cattle operation in Franklin, Virginia. The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on livestock skills with strategic herd planning, equipment operation, and pasture management to optimize herd health and operational efficiency, while adhering to regenerative farming principles. You will directly report to the owner and oversee two farmhands.
Core Responsibilities
- Herd Health: Monitor livestock daily, administer vaccinations, treat illnesses, and manage the breeding/calving season.
- Pasture Management: Coordinate rotational grazing, manage forage production, and oversee fence and water system maintenance, manage hay production.
- Nutrition & Feeding: Ensure consistent access to minerals, and water.
- Equipment & Shop: Safely operate and perform routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, and hay equipment.
- Record Keeping: Genetics, health treatments, and financial expenses.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on cattle herd management experience.
- Animal Handling: Proven expertise in low-stress cattle handling techniques.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency operating large farm machinery and basic mechanical/welding skills.
- Physical Needs: Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean record
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: commensurate with experience.
