Duck Creek Cattle
Job Overview
We are a premier, large-scale Wagyu enterprise spanning 6,000 acres in Central Nebraska. We are seeking a dedicated, versatile, and experienced Ranch Hand to manage the daily, hands-on care of our 1,500-head herd.
This is a full-time, year-round role for a true stockman who takes pride in quiet cattle handling, exceptional animal husbandry, and meticulous attention to detail. Because we operate a world-class genetics and beef program, this position requires strong collaboration with our remote operations office to ensure that field data, livestock health records, and equipment maintenance are accurately tracked.
Key Responsibilities
-
Livestock Management & Low-Stress Handling: Lead day-to-day care and movement of cattle across extensive acreage. We strictly practice low-stress cattle handling to protect animal welfare and carcass quality.
-
Calving & Veterinary Care: Monitor pregnant cows, assist with difficult calvings, provide neonatal calf care, and execute basic veterinary protocols (vaccinations, treating sick animals, and herd health tracking).
-
Data & Record Compliance: Assist the operations office by accurately capturing and reporting field data from chute sessions, breeding, birthing, weaning, and DNA sampling.
-
Horseback Operations: Utilize confident horseback riding skills for gathering, checking, and sorting cattle.
-
Equipment & Heavy Machinery: Safely operate tractors, loaders, feed trucks, and haying equipment.
-
Ranch Maintenance & Mechanics: Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repairs on ranch vehicles, trailers, implements, and fences. Log maintenance hours as required by operations.
Qualifications & Skills
-
Experience: 3+ years of proven experience on a commercial cattle ranch or seedstock operation (calving experience is a strict requirement).
-
Horsemanship: Confident, skilled rider capable of working cattle quietly on horseback.
-
Mechanical Aptitude: Comfortable troubleshooting and repairing basic mechanical issues; proactive about routine equipment upkeep.
-
Communication & Tech Comfort: Ability to maintain clear communication with remote management and comfortably use basic digital tools or paper logs to submit accurate herd and maintenance data.
-
Attributes: Highly reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in varying Nebraska weather conditions.
-
License: Valid driver’s license required (CDL is a major plus).
What We Offer
-
Competitive hourly pay ($20.00 – $30.00/hr) matched to your experience.
-
Housing: Housing options are available and open to negotiation based on candidate needs.
-
The opportunity to work with elite, national-level beef genetics on a progressive, well-maintained operation.
