Head Cook / Kitchen Lead

Overview

Sprucedale is a family-oriented, Christian guest ranch known for warm hospitality and an authentic ranch experience. We’re seeking a capable Head Cook / Kitchen Lead to oversee the kitchen and kitchen crew, deliver consistent, hearty meals, and help create a welcoming “family table” atmosphere for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare homestyle meals from the menu and from scratch (breakfast/lunch/dinner as assigned)
Lead and supervise the kitchen crew: training, delegation, standards, and teamwork
Maintain consistent food quality, timing, and presentation for guest service
Maintain kitchen cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards
Support ordering and inventory; build prep systems and reduce waste
Accommodate reasonable dietary needs when possible with clear planning and communication
Contribute to a warm, welcoming, guest-minded environment; comfortable interacting with guests when appropriate

Position Requirements

Strong cooking ability with confidence in scratch cooking and consistent execution
Prior experience leading a kitchen or serving as a kitchen supervisor/lead
Ability to cook for groups and maintain quality during busy weeks
Organized, dependable, and calm under pressure; strong time management
Positive leadership and communication style; team builder
Guest industry mindset and good people skills

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Experience cooking for groups/volume (guest ranch, lodge, camp, retreat center, etc.)
Baking experience (optional but valued)
Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) or willingness to obtain

Lifestyle / Fit Note

Because of the hours, housing setup, and leadership demands, preference is for candidates with no children currently at home.

Salary

Salary DOE (Dependent on Experience), typically $40,000-$50,000 annually. On-site housing and meals are included as part of the total compensation package.
