We are a large, well-established cattle ranch in Dixon, California seeking an experienced Herdsman / Ranch Foreman to support and help manage our cow/calf operation year-round. This is a full-time, long-term position for someone with strong cattle management experience who is comfortable making day-to-day decisions while working under the direction of ranch ownership and senior management.
This role carries meaningful responsibility but is not a standalone operation. The Herdsman / Ranch Foreman will work closely with ownership, follow established ranch goals and protocols, and communicate regularly on herd health, grazing, labor, and operational decisions. Over time, there are opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement in the future for the right person.
Responsibilities include:
- Breeding, calving, and weaning
- Herd health, treatments, and loss management
- Grazing management and pasture rotation
- Feed and nutrition coordination
- Record keeping and overall organization
- Working with veterinarians, nutritionists, and suppliers
- Equipment operation and basic maintenance
- Helping direct labor and day-to-day ranch work when needed
What we’re looking for:
- 5-10+ years of cow-calf experience required
- Experience managing cattle, not just working around them
- Comfortable making calving decisions and handling pressure situations
- Able to work independently and stay organized
- Forward-thinking, self-motivated, and reliable
- Willing to communicate clearly and work closely with ownership
