LIVE-IN PRIVATE RANCH ESTATE MANAGEMENT COUPLE
Hands-On, Jack-of-All-Trades Couple | South Texas
We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on couple to live on-site and manage a private 1,200-acre recreational ranch and family vacation property in South Texas.
This is not a traditional cattle-ranch position. The couple will personally perform most of the day-to-day work. A part-time ranch hand may be available for heavier outdoor work, and specialized contractors can be used when necessary.
We need a resourceful couple who can work together to keep the entire property clean, organized, maintained, functional, and ready for the owner and guests.
The Role
The responsibilities will generally be divided between:
1.Household care, housekeeping, laundry, stocking, organization, and guest preparation.
2.Property maintenance, repairs, equipment, grounds, vehicles, boats, and outdoor facilities.
Both individuals must be willing to help wherever needed. This is a team position, and neither person can view necessary work as “not my job.”
Primary Responsibilities
1.Personally clean, prepare, inspect, and maintain multiple houses, guest accommodations, kitchens, bathrooms, patios, and entertainment areas.
2.Keep the property at a first-class vacation-home standard, not merely a typical working-ranch standard.
3.Test appliances, lighting, HVAC, internet, water systems, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, grills, and other systems before owner and guest arrivals.
4.Maintain landscaping, pool areas, roads, fences, gates, irrigation, barns, docks, feeders, hunting blinds, and recreational areas.
5.Maintain and troubleshoot vehicles, UTVs, tractors, trailers, boats, jet skis, generators, lawn equipment, pumps, and other property systems.
6.Perform routine repairs involving plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, small engines, welding, irrigation, fencing, and general maintenance.
7.Keep barns, tools, supplies, vehicles, equipment, and storage areas spotless and organized.
8.Direct the part-time ranch hand and inspect assigned work.
9.Schedule and supervise specialized contractors when a repair requires outside expertise.
10.Use checklists, photographs, maintenance records, and regular written updates.
Jack-of-All-Trades Requirement
At least one member of the couple must have strong mechanical and maintenance ability. The other should have excellent housekeeping, hospitality, organization, and property-care skills. Ideally, both will be broadly capable and comfortable performing hands-on work.
The couple should be able to diagnose and handle common problems involving:
1.Plumbing, water lines, pumps, wells, tanks, and irrigation.
2.Electrical systems, lighting, breakers, batteries, and generators.
3.Carpentry, doors, cabinets, fencing, gates, and minor structural repairs.
4.Vehicles, UTVs, tractors, trailers, small engines, and lawn equipment.
5.Pool pumps, filters, controls, and routine pool care.
6.Boats, marine batteries, trailers, and recreational equipment.
7.HVAC troubleshooting, welding, landscaping, roads, and storm cleanup.
8.Wi-Fi, cameras, televisions, and basic property technology.
The successful couple will investigate problems, improvise safe solutions when appropriate, locate parts, and follow issues through to completion. They must also recognize when licensed or specialized assistance is required.
Required Qualifications
1.Proven experience caring for a ranch, estate, lodge, vacation property, resort, large residence, or similar rural property.
2.Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.
3.High standards for cleanliness, presentation, organization, and attention to detail.
4.Willingness to personally perform housekeeping, maintenance, grounds, and general property work.
5.Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
6.Clear communication and basic computer and smartphone skills.
7.Valid driver’s licenses and clean driving records.
8.Ability to pass comprehensive background and reference checks.
9.Availability during weekends and holidays when the owner or guests are present.
10.Honesty, discretion, maturity, and interest in a stable, long-term position.
Traditional ranch experience is helpful, but this position requires more than cattle, wildlife, or equipment experience. The couple must care as much about spotless bathrooms, properly prepared bedrooms, stocked kitchens, and an organized barn as they do about tractors, fences, and ranch roads.
Compensation and Benefits
1.Competitive combined compensation based on experience and demonstrated capabilities.
2.Private on-site housing.
3.Utilities and internet.
4.Ranch vehicle for property-related use.
5.Additional benefits to be discussed.
How to Apply
Please submit:
1.Résumés for both applicants.
2.A joint cover letter explaining how you would divide the responsibilities.
3.Three professional references.
4.Examples of properties you have personally maintained.
5.Examples of difficult mechanical, maintenance, household, or property problems you personally resolved.
Please describe a situation where you had to improvise because the correct part, tool, or contractor was not immediately available.
