Excellent career opportunity for someone who has a true passion for natural foods cooking and ranch life.

This job will begin as a seasonal position with the possibility for a full time position providing the relationship is a good fit for both the owners and candidate. We are looking for somebody early spring till October.

Responsibilities:

  • Menu plan, shop for, cook and serve healthy, delicious, organic and varied meals (lunch and dinner 5 days a week) for a family of 7 and their guests. Flexibility for occasional weekend work, if called upon, is also required
  • Plan meals from scratch based on preferences/dietary needs but always with a focus on health, whole foods and an ample supply of varied vegetables and salads
  • Prep, cook and store simple dishes (i.e. soups and stews, undressed salads) for easy meals on weekends
  • Be knowledgable and comfortable in grilling a wide variety of locally sourced meats and game.
  • During the slow(er) days, stock the families’ pantries with non-perishable pantry items and frozen meals, as requested
  • Pick up grocery store orders for the families and guests when also provisioning for the kitchen during the week
  • Preserve excess garden harvest (can, dry, freeze) and make use of the garden produce in meals
  • Keep the kitchen spotlessly clean and in proper working order, addressing any issues (appliances, plumbing etc) promptly. Monitor and maintain all kitchen equipment and keep the kitchen and pantry organized, including cleaning up after all meals
  • Observe occupational, health, and safety standards in the kitchen at all times
  • Ensure paperwork accuracy such as grocery receipts, cash reimbursement, etc.
  • Be a team player and interact well with the rest of the people working on the ranch.

Requirements:

  • Be very comfortable in the kitchen
  • Graduate of a natural chef culinary program a plus, but not a requirement – enthusiasm for natural cooking is more important
  • Have a good understanding of holistic nutrition, and ability to meet dietary restrictions like gluten- and dairy-free, Paleo, vegetarian/vegan, etc.
  • Share our ideals of organic, local and sustainably sourced ingredients
  • Excited to try new recipes and expand knowledge
  • Have enough experience to cook without recipes
  • Have an eye for detail and presentation
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently; be punctual
  • Be very flexible as a ranch is a fast-paced environment where things change often
  • Be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Able to anticipate needs and go above and beyond to be helpful
  • Clear and positive communication
  • Strong work ethic and integrity
  • Have a great attitude and positive demeanor; be a team player
  • Able to work mornings, nights, and sometimes weekends when required
  • Able to stand on feet for long periods of time and carry heavy bags
  • Love isolation and the great outdoors
  • Have a positive and enthusiastic attitude with a willingness to learn, flexibility, and adaptability to ranch life and families’ needs
  • Other related assignments as necessary
