Private ranch near Oakley, Utah seeks individual immediately for part-time work (20 hours a week) with potential to progress to full-time.

Ideal candidate will be hard working, trustworthy, self-motivated, and reliable, with a positive attitude and willingness to work as a team, but able to work independently.

Individual must live in immediate area, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with the ability to report in inclement weather.

Applicant must be able to take direction well, have the desire to work with an array of large and small animals, and be willing to work a varying, flexible schedule, including weekends.

Must be passionate and enthusiastic about animals and animal advocacy.

Responsibilities:

Recruit volunteers and oversee volunteer program, including recruiting and liaising with animal foster parents.

Thoroughly evaluate the dogs’ temperament and behavior and design a training program to address any behavior concerns; create a training schedule to ensure ongoing and regular training consistent with the program to increase the adoptability of the dogs.

Utilize outreach methods, including but not limited to social media and networking, to actively seek permanent homes for adoptable dogs.

Seek opportunities for off-site adoption events by working with Foundation-approved rescues, and/or establishing and organizing adoption events for the Foundation, in order to secure permanent homes for Foundation dogs.

Implement and oversee a feeding and nutrition program for the dogs, including the administration of supplements or medication, as needed, to ensure the health and well-being of the dogs.

Implement and oversee a daily cleaning regimen for all animal housing and common areas of the facility according to appropriate sanitary standards and animal disease control.

Assist in capital improvement endeavors at the ranch for future expansion.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years of experience working in a canine care facility with similar responsibilities.

Two (2) years hands-on canine handling experience.

Demonstrable knowledge of canine behavior, health, nutrition, and basic first aid.

Thorough understanding of the varying and unique behaviors of shelter animals, and ability to overcome barriers to increase their adoptability.

Experience volunteering and/or fostering in an animal welfare environment, as well as experience successfully recruiting, training and supporting volunteers and animal foster parents.

Experience vetting out appropriate adoptive families for animals.

Effective communication skills, with social media experience.

Excellent problem solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

Position is physically demanding and requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects up to 100 lbs. around the facility, including uneven terrain, and for the duration of an entire work shift.

Position includes both indoor and outdoor working environments, and exposure to the year-round fluctuations in the weather, temperatures, and lighting.

Physically capable of working extended, flexible hours, to include nights, weekends and holidays, as necessary.

Position may involve moving, riding, exercising and lunging of horses.

Salary & Hours:

Position Type: Full Time

Salary: $15 / hr. Negotiable based on experience.
