Reports To: The Property Owners

Overview: Indian Cliffs is seeking a highly organized and experienced Ranch & Farm Manager Couple to oversee all operations of a working alfalfa farm and cattle and recreational ranch property located in Johnson Canyon, approximately 17 miles outside Kanab, Utah. The ~620-acre property features 150 irrigated acres of alfalfa hay production (center pivot irrigation on 4 main fields and rolling irrigation systems on 2 other fields) and maintains approximately 50 breeding cows. The ranch is surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of BLM lands. The ranch has been featured on several TV shows and is 25 miles as a crow flies from Zion National Park.

This role includes farm and cattle operations, wildlife management, property and facilities maintenance, guest services for the owners, their families and friends, and administrative duties. The Manager reports directly to the property owners.

Key Responsibilities

Farm & Cattle Operations

  • Manage alfalfa hay production including irrigation, planting, harvesting, and baling.
  • Oversee cattle grazing and husbandry (branding, vaccinations, health care, feeding, supplements, calving assistance, and sales).
  • Perform weed management (herbicide application) and general land stewardship.
  • Maintain ranch roads, fencing, and property infrastructure.
  • Prepare and submit yearly reports to the Paunsaugunt Landowners Association (PLWA).

Wildlife Management

  • Scout and maintain records of wildlife on the property, in particular mule deer.
  • Control/limit access by public hunters to the ranch.
  • Send owners pictures of mule deer bucks of interest.

Guest Services

  • Coordinate scheduling, cleaning, and preparation of the ranch residence and accommodations for owners, family, and friends.
  • Clean the house and accommodations after guests depart.
  • Prepare meals for owners and guests when requested.
  • Provide excellent hospitality and ensure the property is always guest-ready.

Facilities, Equipment & Maintenance

  • Maintain all ranch facilities, barns, grounds, landscaping, vehicles, tractors, RTVs, and equipment in excellent condition. The ranch has an owner’s residence, the manager’s residence, and a guest house that is often rented to third parties.
  • Oversee repairs, seasonal and preventative maintenance.
  • Schedule and supervise contractors for construction, fencing, and improvements.
  • Conduct routine property inspections; ensure the house, barns, gates, and equipment are locked and secured at all times when not in use.
  • Monitor the property for security concerns or unauthorized access, with special attention to the high-end resort development by a third party on a portion of the ranch.
  • Respond promptly to emergency issues (storm damage, water leaks, equipment failure, etc.), take immediate action to prevent damage, and notify ownership.

Administrative Duties

  • Track and report all expenses to the owner’s Houston office; prepare purchase orders and manage accounts.
  • Hire, supervise, and manage repairs, contractors, seasonal help with owner input.
  • Maintain detailed operational records and provide regular reports to ownership.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience with cattle ranching, alfalfa/hay production, irrigation systems, and ranch equipment operation.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and hospitality skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with computer software for scheduling, record-keeping, expense tracking, and reporting.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and hands-on work ethic.
  • Ability to work with and get along with ranch neighbors.
  • Married couples strongly considered. On-site living is required.

Position Benefits

  • Manager’s House is provided (couple must live on site).
  • Salary Range between $60,000 to $70,000. Offered salary will be based on total skill set and experience level.
  • Annual Bonus typical of this position.
