Ranch Farmhand/Manager / All-Around Hand – Southeastern BC

Position Type: Full-time, year-round

Overview
We are a working cow-calf ranch in BC, looking for a reliable, experienced, and self-motivated ranch hand/manager. This is a hands-on position that covers all aspects of day-to-day ranch and farm work. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can operate independently, and understands what it takes to keep a ranch running smoothly.
This is not a 9-to-5 job. Seasonal hours, long days during calving and haying, and real responsibility come with the role.
Primary Responsibilities
Livestock & Cow-Calf Operations
- Daily care, feeding, and monitoring
- Assisting with calving, branding, processing, and weaning
- Moving cattle between pastures
- Identifying health issues and working with vets as needed
Irrigation
- Managing irrigation staff
- Maintaining equipment
- Checking pumps and water
Fencing & Infrastructure
- Building, repairing, and maintaining barbed wire and electric fence
- Checking fence lines regularly and fixing issues before they become problems
- General yard, corral, and building maintenance
Haying & Field Work
- Operating tractors, swathers, balers, rakes, and loaders
- Baling, hauling, stacking, and feeding hay
- Field prep, basic agronomy awareness, and seasonal farm tasks
- Ability to work long hours during hay season
Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance
- Routine maintenance and basic repairs on:
- Tractors and farm equipment
- Trucks and trailers
- ATVs / side-by-sides
- Keeping equipment clean, greased, serviced, and ready to work
General Ranch Duties
- Snow removal, yard work, and seasonal projects
- Problem-solving and handling “whatever comes up” on a working ranch
- Taking initiative and completing tasks without constant supervision
Qualifications & Expectations
- Previous ranch or farm experience
- Confident horseback riding ability
- Comfortable working alone and making sound decisions
- Mechanically inclined and equipment-savvy
- Valid driver’s license
- Physically capable of outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Reliable, honest, and respectful of equipment and livestock
- Willing to commit long-term
