About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Ranch Foreman to lead day-to-day operations on the cattle side of our operation in south central Nebraska. This hands-on position is central to our cattle program, including backgrounding medium- to high-risk calves during the winter and managing yearlings on summer pasture. Position will carry much responsibility and individuals must be able to accomplish tasks with little oversight.
We currently use ATVs, but strongly value good horsemanship and the ability horses can bring to an operation.
Infrequent assistance with farming operations, particularly during harvest, may also be required.

- Daily Pen Checking & Processing – Accurate and timely health assessments and treatments
- Team-Oriented – Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Primary Responsibilities
Winter Backgrounding:
- Receive and process incoming calves
- Monitor pens daily and promptly doctor sick animals
- Assist with feeding as needed
- Build and maintain temporary electric fencing for cornstalk grazing
Summer Range (Yearlings):
- Move and monitor yearlings on pasture
- Check water systems and animal condition
- Maintain accurate grazing and health records
Facility & Ranch Work:
- Maintain pens, buildings, fences, and water systems
- Conduct weed (thistle) and cedar tree control
- Perform equipment upkeep and basic mechanical repairs
- Keep accurate records (animal health, inventory, movements)
- Collaborate with owners and coordinate with seasonal employees
Required Qualifications
- Experience backgrounding and doctoring medium-high risk cattle
- Strong knowledge of low-stress cattle handling and animal health
- Ability to operate and maintain ranch equipment
- Self-motivated and reliable with sound decision-making skills
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
Preferred Skills
- Horsemanship for cattle work
- Welding, fencing, and mechanical repair
- Pasture management and weed control
- Supervisory or leadership experience
