General Experience:
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working on a working cattle ranch
- Strong understanding of cattle behavior, care, and handling
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Cattle Work:
- Proficient in handling cattle safely and humanely, including:
- Sorting, moving, and loading
- Administering vaccines and medications
- Monitoring for illness or injury
- Familiarity with calving seasons, weaning, and basic herd health
Land & Equipment:
- Skilled in operating, maintaining, and making basic repairs on:
- Tractors
- Backhoes
- Skid Steer
- Experience with brush control and range management, including mowing, spraying, and removal of invasive species (e.g., mesquite, huisache)
- Mechanical skills sufficient to handle most maintenance / repair work on ranch vehicles
Fencing & Water Systems:
- Competent in building and repairing barbed wire fences
- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot water systems, including wells, pumps, water lines, and troughs
General Ranch Duties:
- Road and gate maintenance
- Pest, predator, brush control as needed
- Monitoring and reporting weather damage or livestock issues
- Recordkeeping for cattle health, equipment maintenance, and seasonal tasks (basic paper logs or smartphone use preferred)
Other Requirements:
- Must live on or near the ranch (housing on site is available)
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Able to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in all weather
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and maintain a strong work ethic
- Basic Welding Skills preferred
- Basic Tech Skills…. Scanning Documents, Electronic Cattle Record Keeping.
