A boutique working guest ranch in SW of Colorado is looking for the right person to help daily farming/ranching operations.

Key responsibilities include but not limit to the following:

Pasture management: Ensure pasture health and production.

Irrigation (Flood & gated pipe irrigation system) 60 acres of fields, make sure water flows across fields, maintain pipes, monitor water usage.
Ditch maintenance – clean irrigation ditches, fix leaks, and construct gates or appropriate structure if needed.
Soil health: Seeding on pasture when needed, apply animal manures, weeding…etc.
Marking, disc and harrowing the field
Hay – Cutting & bail and storing hay.

Manage livestock – We have about 30 cows, 40 chickens & 100 sheep.

Rotate cows among pastures. Moving cows to grazing permit land
Building/repair fences
Castrating, doctoring, feeding and caring the livestock.
Maintain good records, particularly during lambing or calving period
Clean sheep shed daily and chicken coop.
Branding/tag and band cow & sheep in a timely manner
Haul livestock to processing plant

Garden/Orchard/Vineyard:

Hoop house maintenance and irrigation system set up/maintenance.
Outdoor small garden’s irrigation system maintenance
Watering orchard, marking the ground
Maintain fencing around the fruit trees

Operate and maintain ranch equipment’s & tools including but not limit to tractor, ATV, chain saws, generators, well system … etc.

General upkeep: fencing, welding, weeding, maintain overall ranch environment.

Assist owner with ranch business such as beef/lamb and vacation rentals and Assist the ranch manager in daily workflow tasks.

Qualifications:

Individual must be in good physical condition, efficiently get work done yet being flexible to adjust priority as needed, experience operating heavy machinery like tractors, haying equipments, have a strong work ethic with initiative and can-do attitude to always see the next task at hand. Compassion for livestock and their well beings. This position may require nights, emergencies, weekends, and holidays if needed.
