RANCH HAND

Our Ranch Hand performs daily maintenance and care of a ranch’s, equipment, and property, including feeding animals, repairing fences, and operating machinery like tractors, mowers, skid steers and ATVs. Duties vary but often involve outdoor work in all weather conditions and require physical strength, a willingness to work long hours, and practical, hands-on skills. Key responsibilities include landscape maintenance, and general repairs, with animal husbandry as a future plan for the ranch.  Additional skills in areas like irrigation and basic veterinary care being beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Operation & Maintenance:

Safely operating and maintaining machinery such as tractors and implements, ATVs, mowers, and skid steers; performing basic mechanical repairs on tools and equipment.

Property Maintenance:

Mowing, trimming, irrigating, and conducting seasonal clean-ups for grounds-keeping.

Fencing & Repairs:

Building and repairing fences and maintaining various structures on the ranch property.

Agricultural Tasks:

Assisting with planting, harvesting, haying operations, and managing agricultural irrigation systems.

General Ranch Operations:

Performing varied tasks to ensure the smooth running of the ranch, which can include anything from snow removal to managing inventory.

Livestock Care:

Feeding, watering, and monitoring the health of various animals, assisting with breeding and calving, and moving livestock between pastures.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Physical Stamina
  • The job requires significant manual labor and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Working alone or with the Ranch Manager
  • Can-Do Attitude

Practical Skills:

Experience with a range of tools and equipment, basic mechanical ability, and animal husbandry are essential.

Adaptability:

The ability to learn and perform diverse tasks and cross-train in different aspects of ranch operations is crucial.

Problem-Solving:

The capacity to identify and resolve issues as they arise on a day-to-day basis.

Work Environment:

  • Ranch hands primarily work outdoors.
  • The work can be strenuous, requiring physical strength and coordination.
  • Long hours are common, especially during busy seasons.
  • They may live on or near the ranch and work varying schedules.
