McKamey Ranch
We are a family owned and operated cattle and sheep operation. We are located next to the Smith River outside of Great Falls MT. We are looking for a full-time, long-term ranch hand with experience in this lifestyle. Looking for someone who enjoys working hard takes pride in the work you are doing. Must be honest and an up-front person with good communication skills. This is not a management position so need to be able to take directions and follow through. Must be able to work a full day in sun and snow.
This is NOT a cowboy position; we do move the cows and sheep a few times throughout the summer and bring them home in the fall. We use 4 wheelers & bikes mostly, but the horses are a great help on some of the rides where it is very rocky or crossing the river. Jobs would be looking at the livestock doctoring, and general maintenance of animals’ wellbeing. Helping during the calving, branding, sheering and lambing season. Operating farm equipment during the haying season and to clean barns (tractors, balers, processors, backhoe, etc.). Intermediate level or higher in use of tools/mechanic to maintain, build and repair equipment and buildings and irrigation pivots. The ability to fix and build fences and some electric fences, also hand spraying weeds.
There is a lot of independent work. But need to also work as part of a team. We need someone who is willing to listen and respect how things are done here, but willing to present new ideas in a respectful manner as well. Duties and responsibilities are subject to change dependent upon ranch operational needs and sometimes weather.
There is no smoking allowed in ranch buildings or vehicles. We are a drug-free work environment. Must have a current driver’s license and can pass a background check. There is housing available. Pets are only permitted if approved by us first. NO reptiles, rodents or birds. Families are welcome, but this is only a paid position for one person currently. Cascade school is 15 miles from the ranch and has a school bus that comes out to the end of our drive. It is a monthly salary negotiable based on experience.
