Ranch Hand / Ranch Operations

Position: Ranch Hand
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Central Texas

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, hardworking Ranch Hand to assist with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and improvement of a private ranch. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, maintaining property, and taking pride in keeping a ranch in excellent condition.

The Ranch Hand will be responsible for routine ranch duties as well as assisting with special projects and hunting operations throughout the year. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, mechanically inclined, comfortable operating equipment, and able to recognize and address maintenance issues without needing constant supervision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Regularly inspect and maintain perimeter and interior fencing, gates, and ranch roads.
  • Check water sources, troughs, tanks, ponds, water lines, and related equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Feed and care for wildlife according to the ranch’s management program, including filling and maintaining feeders.
  • Operate tractors, skid steers, mowers, UTVs, trailers, and other ranch equipment.
  • Mow, shred, trim, and maintain grounds around ranch facilities, roads, fence lines, hunting areas, and other designated areas.
  • Keep the ranch clean and organized, including barns, shops, equipment areas, and common areas.
  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on ranch facilities, equipment, fences, gates, plumbing, and other ranch infrastructure.
  • Assist with brush clearing, road maintenance, fence construction, water projects, habitat improvements, and other ranch improvement projects.
  • Identify maintenance or property issues and either correct them or promptly communicate what needs to be addressed.
  • Maintain ranch equipment and perform routine inspections, cleaning, greasing, and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with hunting operations during hunting season, including preparing blinds and feeders, maintaining hunting areas, assisting with game retrieval, and helping keep ranch facilities ready for owners and guests.
  • Assist with special ranch projects as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and professional ranch environment at all times.

Qualifications

  • Previous ranch, farm, construction, landscaping, equipment operation, or similar hands-on experience preferred.
  • Experience operating tractors, skid steers, UTVs, mowers, trailers, and similar equipment.
  • Basic mechanical and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to perform basic fence, plumbing, carpentry, and general ranch repairs is a plus.
  • Comfortable working independently and prioritizing daily responsibilities.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work outdoors in Texas weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, climbing, bending, and performing manual labor throughout the workday.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and respectful of private property, equipment, owners, guests, and wildlife.

Preferred Skills

Experience with wildlife management, hunting operations, heavy equipment, welding, mechanical repairs, fencing, water systems, land clearing, or habitat improvement is highly desirable.

Work Schedule

This is primarily a full-time position with a regular weekly schedule. Some early mornings, evenings, weekends, or additional hours may be required during hunting season, special projects, severe weather, or other ranch activities.

What We’re Looking For

The right person will take ownership of the ranch’s day-to-day condition. We are looking for someone who notices when something needs attention and handles it rather than waiting to be told. The goal is to keep the ranch, equipment, wildlife program, grounds, and facilities well maintained and ready for use at all times.
