Lamon Farms is a well established family-owned cattle ranch in the scenic mountains of central Idaho, dedicated to raising high-quality Hereford cattle with integrity, excellent animal care, and responsible land management. Combining traditional ranch values with modern management practices, on 1,000 acres with 200 pure bred Hereford cattle. The ranch has all equipment and facilities needed for continued growth in size. Position Summary
The Working Ranch Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Lamon Farms. This is a working position requiring active participation in ranch tasks while supervising employees, maintaining livestock, equipment, and facilities, and ensuring ranch operations are conducted safely and efficiently.
Primary Responsibilities
Livestock Management
- Daily care of the Hereford herd.
- Herd health, identify and treat illness or injury.
- Calving, branding, vaccinations, weaning, and shipping.
- Maintain accurate cattle records.
- Monitor body condition.
Pasture and Grazing Management
- Execute grazing plans.
- Monitor forage conditions and water availability.
- Repair and maintain fences.
Equipment and Facilities
- Operate and maintain tractors, skid steers, trucks, trailers, and ATVs.
- Conduct and ensure preventative maintenance.
- Keep barns, corrals, roads, and water systems clean and in good repair.
Hay & Feed Operations
- Hay storage.
- Feed livestock during winter.
- Monitor feed inventory and minimize waste.
Employee Supervision
- Direct ranch staff and seasonal help.
- Train new staff.
- Assign daily work priorities.
- Promote teamwork and accountability.
Safety
- Enforce safe livestock handling.
- Maintain equipment safely.
- Ensure ranch practices are followed.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies.
Administrative Duties
- Keep records on cattle, feed, equipment maintenance, and inventories.
- Report operational issues to the ranch owner.
- Assist with budgeting for supplies and repairs.
- Coordinate with veterinarians, feed suppliers, and contractors.
Desired Qualifications
- 10+ years of practical cattle ranch experience.
- Strong horsemanship and/or ATV livestock handling skills.
- Experience with Hereford cattle preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude. Ability to perform general ranch repairs.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- US citizen
Physical Requirements
- Lift 75 pounds.
- Work outdoors year round.
- Operate heavy equipment safely.
- Work long hours during calving, haying, and shipping seasons.
