7D Ranch

Currently hiring Wranglers and Kid’s Wranglers at the 7D Ranch
The 7D Ranch is located in the remote & beautiful Sunlight Basin, deep within the Shoshone National Forest, about 50 miles northwest of Cody, Wyoming. We have a horse herd of around 100 animals, and a capacity of 33 guests. The ranch provides a scenic mountain valley location for those whose priorities include riding, fishing, hiking, relaxation and wilderness beauty. We specialize in family vacations, including riding for the entire family and a non-stop activity program for the children.
The 7D Ranch has been in operation by the Dominick family since 1958 and to this day has a strong commitment to hospitality and the western way of life. We look for staff members that are dedicated to sharing this hospitality and lifestyle with our guests. Our staff goal is to provide our guests with an amazing and memorable western ranch vacation. We all work together as a team to achieve this. The 7D Ranch experience is geared for the enjoyment of our guests, therefore, our guests are our first priority.
Guests come to stay with us for an all-inclusive 6-night vacation. We provide them with rustic cabins, fully furnished and cleaned daily by staff, and three family-style meals every day. Our Wranglers guide horseback rides through endless miles of trail systems. We also offer guided hikes as well as guided fly-fishing. Our all-inclusive kid’s program keeps children busy and having a blast! Other activities include trap shooting, brunch ride, line dancing, cowboy singers, lawn games, horse training demos, trivia, and more!
Housing is provided for all staff, and meals are included. Staff are encouraged to participate in ranch activities during time off.
Spending a summer working at the 7D Ranch is incredibly rewarding, and a lot of hard work! Days are busy, but you will have a chance to make long-lasting connections with our incredible guests (many of whom have been returning for years); form friendships with fellow staff from across the country; explore the beautiful Sunlight Basin; and most importantly, learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, responsibility, conflict resolution, communication, and the value of work done with your hands.

Wrangler Job Description:
Our horse program is a key area of our operation. Our goal is to provide safe, enjoyable and educational horseback riding experience for ranch guests. We look for candidates with strong horse and people skills. Wranglers must be able to give instructions and act as tour guides on trail rides. Wranglers must be able to carry on and engage guests in conversations about the ranch, wildlife, wildflowers, history, etc. while on trail rides.
We take guests on many miles of trail systems in the Shoshone National Forest and North Absaroka Wilderness. We have a large variety of half-day and all-day rides, and there are always new places to explore. Guests love the differences between our trails, and the scenic viewpoints we stop at.
Wranglers work under the direction of our Corral Boss with our herd of 90+ equines. Wranglers are on a rotating schedule to wrangle horses out to our pastures each morning & evening. In addition to guiding trail rides, wranglers groom, saddle, perform barn and tack maintenance, trail maintenance, fencing, general ranch chores, and provide riding lessons to guests as needed. Wranglers grain and doctor horses as required and as skills permit.
We practice Natural Horsemanship techniques and expect all wranglers to adhere to the techniques prescribed by the Corral Boss and Management.
Wranglers are asked to start mid-May and work through mid-September. A typical week will be 50-60 hours over five and a half days.
Kid’s Wrangler Job Description:
The 7D requires a highly flexible, cooperative and well-rounded individual for this position, as the Kid’s Wrangler must relate well to children, their parents, and other staff. Primary responsibilities include the supervision and care of all guest children and the organization of activities scheduled that are geared toward fun, environmental observation, and safe horseback riding experiences. Kid’s Wranglers must be good riders and have good equine skills. There are some days when Kid’s Wranglers do not participate in any horse related activities with kids. Kid’s Wranglers lead hikes, archery, organize water balloon fights, supervise children playing in the river, organize arts & crafts, storytelling, and games. They primarily work with kids 5-12 years old. Depending on the number of guest children each week, a second Wrangler will typically assist.
In addition, Kid’s Wranglers will assist Wranglers in the corrals any time they are not supervising children. Kid’s Wranglers will participate in the wrangle schedule (wrangling horses to and from pasture), grooming, saddling and unsaddling, graining, doctoring, barn and tack maintenance, trail maintenance, fencing, general ranch chores, etc.
Candidates must have experience working with children and horses. Kid’s Wranglers are asked to start mid-May, and work through mid-August. This is a great position for someone in college looking to wrangle and work on a guest ranch, but who cannot commit to working into September. Kid’s Wranglers typically work 50-60 hours over 5 and a half days.
