POSITION SUMMARY
As a Sous Chef you are a primary contact for guests at Zapata Ranch, therefore you must present a clean and tidy appearance, be warm, gracious and able to think on your feet at all times. Safety is our number one concern, followed closely by ensuring that all of our guests have the best vacation of their life. We expect you to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times, this means an outstanding can-do attitude and approaching each task with the same enthusiasm. You are expected to support your colleagues in any way that you can, as they will do for you.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist in and solely deliver high quality meals and outstanding dining experience to all guests.
  • To ensure cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, food prep areas, food storage areas and throughout the dining spaces.
  • To be guest oriented, talk and engage with guests on a daily basis on and off duties.
  • To fully support all colleagues in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
  • To carry out your work and responsibilities with a positive and friendly attitude at all times.
  • To contribute ideas to the growing Ranchlands food program to enable it to be the best it can be.
  • To help educate guests and staff on our local and ranch raised food program.
  • Assist in and when scheduled deliver exceptional homemade/cooked meals.
  • Be responsible for sandwich making and ingredient preparation each morning.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, equipment and facilities to a high standard, daily.
  • Assist lead cook in breakfast, appetizer and dinner meal preparation, including dessert.
  • Plan to prepare and cook meals in the Lead Chef’s absence.
  • Contribute ideas to assist in the smooth running of the kitchen
  • Contribute ideas to the elevation and creation of the menu particularly with dietary requirements.
  • Follow a schedule to ensure smooth, efficient running of kitchen
  • Be time efficient in all areas of work
  • Be flexible and accommodating with last minute requests and all dietary requirements.
  • Work closely with the cook on the meal plan and recipes.
  • Sort when needed for recycling and oversee the cleanliness and organization of the recycling area and dining areas.
  • Assist with processing deliveries
  • Manage staff during service when lead cook is not present

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Organized
  • Good at planning
  • Experience cooking professionally
  • Experience living remotely

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years cooking in a professional capacity

Valid driver’s license

WORK SCHEDULE + TIME OFF
This is a seasonal (March 1-October 31), full-time position that entails at least 40 hours per week. Preferred start date: Feb. 19, 2023.

Reasonable overtime to meet business needs are likely.

Regular working hours are dependent on schedule

Specific work schedules are set on a weekly basis and will vary according to the needs of the business; staff must be willing and able to adapt to meet a flexible weekly schedule.

All staff are guaranteed at least one day off per week.

Five (5) days off may be requested within the season; days off must be coordinated around the guest and staff schedule with the Food and Dining Manager and be approved by the Ranch Manager.

HOUSING
Housing is available in a shared house, shared bedroom.
